Hay alerted to possible supermarket

The series of mid Wales towns facing the possible impacts of new supermarkets now includes Hay on Wye. This report just in from Hay TT

There will be a meeting on Thursday 27th October at 6.00pm in Richard Booth's Bookshop to discuss the proposed redevelopment of the current Hay School site.  For those who are not aware, Powys County Council is proposing to sell the site to a developer and use the proceeds to construct a new school, community centre and care home on Forest Road (adjacent to the GP surgery).  According to the Hay Chamber of Commerce "it seems fairly certain  that the only viable provider would be some form of “supermarket".  Clearly this would have a significant impact on the Hay economy and the character of the town.  If you wish to make your views known it is vital that you speak up now!  So please attend the meeting on Thursday if you can.

For more details about the meeting please contact John Evans, Chairman of Hay & District Chamber of Commerce on 01497 820590.
