Skills Sharing Taster Event
Sunday 22 November
Civic Hall, Llandeilo
Some of us are waking up to the fact that we no longer have a lot of the basic skills our grandparents took for granted. What's more, as a society, we have lost our understanding of the value of those skills.
Today a skill is regarded as of little value unless it's certified by a ‘professional’ body and can therefore be traded on for money at a later date. But in future, an ability to turn our hand to a range of everyday tasks without needing to call in a specialist will be essential. To increase our resilience as individuals and as a community we need to learn a range of these lost skills. That is why Transition Town Llandeilo, like other transition initiatives, is about to embark on a reskilling programme.
We start by offering a taster afternoon, which will lead to a fuller programme of reskilling days and courses over the coming months.
The afternoon will feature the following:
* Beekeeping - how to get started with your own hive - see the equipment involved and find out about local courses * Sustainable woodworking - using basic hand tools * Rug making - with recycled materials and remnants * Knitting and needlecraft - offering an alternative to our throwaway clothing habits *Sourdough baking - making delicious 'real' bread from the simplest ingredients * Basket making - creating something that's useful and beautiful from sustainable local materials
All are welcome. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.
For more information please contact Sue Weaver 01550 777402 or John Gaffney 01550 740655 ...and if you have skills that you would like to pass onto others, and could offer to share them as part of the programme, then please contact one of them and offer your services.
