Tour de Presteigne
This May the Tour de Presteigne on the Welsh Borders is the place to be for everyone interested in electric bikes.
The weekend of events, hosted by local electric bike business OnBike, will be on the Presteigne Industrial Estate, an ideal place to try out bikes. It will centre round the now well established Workhouse Gallery and Café. There will be a full range of electric bikes including EBCO, Raleigh, Daum, eZee, Batribike, E-Motion and Wisper, and many other suppliers.
This year’s event will start at 9.30am on Saturday 7 May with a circular guided 50 mile ride into the Welsh hills, followed by an evening of music in Presteigne. The bulk of the events and the bike show will follow on the Sunday.
From 10pm on Sunday there will be the opportunity to ride and buy, a wide range of electric bikes. In the early afternoon there will be an event for the more competitive bikers which will take in some of the fabulous Border countryside on a 10 mile orienteering competition. The legendary Tour de Presteigne round the closed streets of the town will take place at 4.30pm, with all participants in fancy dress. This year there will be a cash prizes. As usual it will be MC’d by the famous Radio 4 broadcaster and writer Ian Marchant, who will be actually performing songs with his band Your Dad while the event is in progress!
Tour de Presteigne have extended an invitation to River Simple, the innovative Ludlow hydrogen fuel cell car designers, to bring their latest prototype, a city car that looks every bit as exciting as the Morgan fuel cell prototype they showed in 2009. Also the nearby National Cycle Museum will mount an exhibition of some of their exotic vintage bikes.
If you are hoping to buy your first electric bike or you are a dyed in the wool enthusiast, or just something in-between, the Tour de Presteigne continues to be the best place to come and ride electric bikes, compete in events, or chat to other enthusiasts. Don’t miss it!
