If the TTIP goes ahead, as is being discreetly negotiated at present, it will make billions for the US global corporations and ruin our society, economy and environment in the process.

Tools for Self Reliance relies on You!

TFSR Cymru: what we do

The main work of Tools for Self Reliance Cymru is aimed at enabling African artisans and their families to help themselves build a better and more prosperous life. We do this by the hard work of volunteer members, the generosity of our supporters and with our partners in the `Small Industries Development Organisation' of Tanzania (SIDO).

We collect unwanted hand tools from people in Wales, sort them into those required in Tanzania and those not, such as garden tools. These are sold here in Wales to support charity, and pay for the shipping of containers to Tanzania. The tools bound for Tanzania are refurbished either in our workshop in Crickhowell or in the SIDO/Wales workshop in Mwanza .These tools are cleaned, sharpened, repaired and re-handled. The newly re-furbished and valuable tools are compiled into kits for carpenters, blacksmiths, mechanics, tailors and other skilled people who can put them to good use. Each kit is tailored to the identified needs of each artisan group.

This is the simple idea behind our work: recycling unwanted hand tools, many of which might otherwise have ended up in landfill sites, and redistributing them to people in developing areas of the world who can use them to build a better life for themselves, their families and their communities.

We rely almost exclusively on volunteers and donators of tools. Volunteers are welcomed, particularly those with the following skills: good DIY and mending, eBay experience, fundraising experience, promotional and marketing, event organising, etc

Tools always needed, especially carpentry and  blacksmithing.

If you think you have some spare time please get in touch and I will contact you.

Many thanks

Ian Jones
