Healing workshop season at The Ton
WORKSHOPS at THE TON 2011
Workshops at The Ton, near Hay on Wye, will take place in a beautifully restored stone barn with stunning views overlooking the Wye Valley. Renovated using only natural materials, including sheep’s wool insulation. Accommodation is available in the barn or as camping in the adjacent field.
Green Architecture and Living Villages
Creating living villages through green architecture
At the upcoming Leominster Green Party AGM, the reports by green councilors on their experience in office will be followed with a presentation by green architect Jonathan Hines.
Supporting Communities to Grow
A new programme to help people set up and manage growing schemes in the heart of their community has been launched across Wales by the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens (FCFCG).
Called Tyfu Pobl (Growing People), is funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013, which is itself funded by the Welsh Government and the European Union. The three year programme will support a variety of schemes, including community farms, allotments, community gardens, community orchards and Community Supported Agriculture schemes. It is a direct result of booming interest in community food growing and creating natural green spaces.
DIY Nematode Slug Killer
After recent rain the home front of the war on slugs will be getting busy. Word on the street is that you can make your own nematode slug killer by catching slugs and letting nature take its course in a bucket for a few weeks. This is a bit like the way you can seed nitrogen fixing bacteria into a culture to boost mycelium in your soil.
Whilst not a practice for the squeamish - yes the slugs will die in the bucket as part of this process - it is robably no more horrible than any other method of disposal, is what goes on in soil anyway, and invoves no cost or chemicals.
